Overview

We are seeking an experienced & energetic Delivery Director to lead the successful delivery of complex transformation programmes across the utilities sector. This is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing programme execution, client relationships, delivery quality, and team performance across a portfolio of strategic engagements.


The ideal candidate will need to have experience across either Water or Gas networks.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background within the utilities sector (energy, water, networks, or related infrastructure) delivering large-scale business, operational or digital transformation initiatives.


You will act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders while ensuring programmes are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. As a key member of the leadership team, you will also contribute to business growth, capability development, and the continuous improvement of delivery methodologies.


Key Responsibilities

Programme & Portfolio Leadership

  • Lead the delivery of multiple complex transformation programmes and strategic client engagements.
  • Provide executive oversight across programme portfolios, ensuring delivery excellence and client satisfaction.
  • Establish effective governance structures, reporting frameworks, and risk management processes.
  • Drive successful programme outcomes across business, operational, technology, and organisational change initiatives.
  • Manage programme budgets, commercial performance, and resource planning.

Client Leadership

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, including C-suite executives, Programme Directors, and Business Leaders.
  • Act as the executive escalation point for delivery challenges and programme risks.
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients on transformation, operational improvement, and delivery best practice.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships and expand engagement scope.

Utilities Sector Expertise

  • Apply deep understanding of utilities industry challenges, regulatory requirements, operating models, and transformation priorities.
  • Support clients across areas such as:
  • Energy transition and decarbonisation
  • Asset management and operations
  • Network transformation
  • Smart infrastructure and technology deployment
  • Organisational and operating model change
  • Regulatory and compliance-driven programmes

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop delivery managers, consultants, and programme teams.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and client impact.
  • Support recruitment, talent development, and succession planning initiatives.
  • Champion delivery excellence and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Commercial & Business Growth

  • Support business development activities including proposals, bids, and client presentations.
  • Contribute to account growth strategies and identify opportunities for additional services.
  • Ensure delivery performance aligns with commercial objectives and profitability targets.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop new service offerings and delivery capabilities.

  • Delivery against financial, commercial, and operational targets.

Required Experience

Essential

  • 5+ years' experience delivering large-scale transformation programmes.
  • Significant experience within the utilities sector, including energy, water, networks, or related infrastructure environments.
  • Proven track record leading multi-disciplinary teams and complex client engagements.
  • Experience managing programme portfolios and senior stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience managing budgets and delivery performance.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of utility industry regulation, asset-intensive environments, and operational technology landscapes.
  • Experience supporting business development and pre-sales activities.
  • Exposure to agile, hybrid, and traditional programme delivery methodologies.
