Principal / Associate Transport Planner

A growing and highly respected transport planning and infrastructure consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal or Associate Transport Planner to join its North East team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced development planning professional who is looking to take the next step in their career, lead projects, manage client relationships and play an important role in the continued growth of an established consultancy.
The business provides transport planning, highways design, drainage and infrastructure advice across a broad range of sectors, working with both public and private sector clients on residential, commercial, employment, education, healthcare, logistics, regeneration and mixed-use developments throughout the UK.

The Role

You will lead the delivery of development planning projects from initial feasibility through to planning approval, providing strategic transport advice and technical expertise across a diverse portfolio of schemes.
The role will involve managing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, access appraisals and junction capacity assessments, whilst maintaining strong relationships with clients, local authorities and wider project teams.
You will work closely with senior leadership, helping to drive project delivery, support junior team members and contribute towards business growth. There is genuine opportunity to take on additional responsibility over time, making this an ideal move for someone looking to progress further within a growing consultancy environment.
Projects range from residential developments and strategic land promotion through to commercial schemes, healthcare facilities, education projects, employment sites and major regeneration developments, ensuring a varied and interesting workload.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong experience within development-led transport planning consultancy.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and Travel Plans.
  • Good understanding of the UK planning process and development planning environment.
  • Experience liaising with Local Highway Authorities, clients and project stakeholders.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency with industry software including TRICS, TEMPro, ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig and Junctions software.
  • Chartered status or progress towards a professional qualification would be beneficial but is not essential.

Why Apply?

This consultancy has built a strong reputation for delivering practical and commercially focused transport planning advice while maintaining a collaborative and supportive culture.
You'll join a business with a strong pipeline of residential and commercial development work, alongside education, healthcare, infrastructure and regeneration projects. The team offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced senior professionals while having genuine influence over project delivery and client relationships.
For ambitious candidates, this role offers a clear route towards more senior leadership responsibilities as the business continues to grow across the North East and wider UK market.
